Biography Lecturer on the changing face of the British countryside and a regular contributor to newspapers and magazines, focusing on many topics, including unusual travel assignments, country walking, military and social history, motoring and the fate of English pubs. A full-time writer since 1993 and published author of over 40 books, mainly travel and walking guides. Various television appearances and numerous radio broadcasts over many years.
Main professional activities Weekly walking column in the Reading Chronicle; contributes to the Daily Telegraph, Your Dog magazine, Choice, The Countryman and Home & Country; regular contributor to Country Walking. Recent publications include 'See London, Walk London' - a travel guide to the capital offering 20 themed walks and useful information for visitors. Regularly contributes to AA walks and pub guides and writes books on social history for publishers Francis Frith.

Other relevant information Nick has been busy working on three separate magazine features to mark the 60th anniversary of D-Day in June. He visited the Normandy beaches in January to research two walking articles and then followed parts of the Solent Way in Hampshire, a 60-mile trail cleverly linking all the D-Day landmarks on this side of the Channel. Nick has also been busy working on the 2005 edition of the AA Pub Guide and putting the finishing touches to three new walking guides - a travel book on London, a walking guide to Wiltshire and a book of 20 walks in Hampshire & the New Forest. Recent travel features include a trip to the Faroe Islands and a visit to Exmoor to mark 50 years of the National Park.
