Biography |
Travelling the remoter areas of the world since 1967, driving various four-wheel drive vehicles, I have made 23 expeditions in the Sahara Desert, and more than 165 expeditions and journeys in deserts, mountains, rainforests and seas worldwide. I have also travelled on foot, camel, mule and in Greenland by dog sledge. An award-winning writer and photographer, I have written 18 books on off-road 4-wheel drive, trekking and diving and produce articles and photography for a wide variety of web sites magazines, newspapers and their weekend magazine supplements worldwide and as Advertisements and brochures. Nikon Cameras (UK) staged an exhibition of my underwater photography in 1989. |

Main professional activities |
Proprietor of JJ Travel & Photography and its picture library. Books, articles and commissioned and stock photography for a wide variety of web sites and magazines specializing in travel, Third World peoples, expedition terrain, four-wheel drive vehicles, the underwater world, expedition and travel photography and underwater photography, particularly of sharks. My work is published regularly in other books, magazines, newspapers and their weekend magazine supplements and museums worldwide and as Advertisements, Advertising Hoardings, CD-ROMs, Calendars, Postcards, Cereal Packets and inserts, Posters and Postage Stamps. I produce advertising photography and articles for government tourist boards, advertising agencies, equipment manufacturers and charter operators. Occasional contributor to all three UK diving magazines, diving and adventure magazines in Germany, Holland, Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore, Wanderlust Magazine, social magazines and newspapers. Contributing editor to ScubaGlobe magazine in Thailand, which covers all of South Asia. Professional lecturing at major travel, photographic and diving shows worldwide. |

I am a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. A Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society and serve on their Documentary and Visual Journalism Photography and Travel Photography Distinction Panels. A member of the Outdoor Writers and photographers Guild, Travelwriters UK, the Alpine Club, the Climbers’ Club and the Scientific Exploration Society. |
