Biography |
When I turn my pen and compass to travel writing I go beyond being strongly evocative of place. I show the idiosyncrasies of a culture and the wonder of a destination - speaking to the very soul of travel. There's a certain frisson of expectation in my script, a texture you'll feel of the places and people I describe and their essential diversity, their distinctive look and flavour.
I originate from a small farming community in Southern Africa which, in some way, leant to my interest in the colours and textures of world cultures.
My career has moved me around the world - Beverley Hills, Budapest, Kinshasa, Kentucky, London, Sarajevo, Miami, Maputo. I’ve studied in the United States, the UK, South Africa and mainland Europe. Now I live in the south-east of England where I need look no further than my front door for inspiration; just beyond my garden gate is a handsome church that's been standing there adding a touch of nobility and grandeur to the landscape for more than a thousand years. Here it’s just an anonymous country church, treasured by a few aging parishioners and one opinionated writer.
I also have a base in Belgium which affords me easy access to the rest of Europe - Paris, Amsterdam and Cologne are but a few hour’s drive in either direction. As such I am available to carry out assignments at these and other far flung destinations. My travel itinerary will provide details of where I'll be over the next few months. Should you need a topic reported on from one of these destinations, or if you'd like to discuss an assignment, don't hesitate to contact me.

I write travel articles and features for numerous publications around the world. I also do the accompanying photography.
My writing is not limited to only travel magazines as I regularly work with genre specific publications - wine, food, tobacco, in-flights, motoring, and b2b; as such I have ready outlets. |

Other relevant information |
Being a fulltime writer gives me license to exercise my mind fully and freely. Writing is an art form which needs far more than just a pen. It takes preparation, patience, perseverance and a creative mind that sees ideas as clearly as splashes of vivid colour. But most of all, it takes passion, a passion to reach beyond the boundaries of imagination. Here are some comments received from editors and readers. |
